Internship Program
Family Therapy Associates is proud to offer a comprehensive internship experience for students in a master's program in the mental health field. We welcome many applicants from students in various graduate programs, including marriage and family therapy, clinical mental health counseling, clinical social work and others. As an intern (or practicum student), we want you to gain a wide array of experience during which you will have many layers of support. The goal of your internship at FTA is to prepare you for the industry while allowing you the most opportunity to learn and grow in your profession before transitioning into your career. We are here to bridge the gap between learning and the reality of the profession.

You will have the opportunity to complete the following requirements during your internship year at Family Therapy Associates:
- Internship placement will be a duration of 9-12 months at FTA providing clinical services in the form of individual therapy and/or couples and family therapy.
- Commit to a clinical schedule of 2-3 full days per week of availability on site.
- Build up to and maintain a caseload of 12-15 clients per week through the course of the internship. You will work directly with your Clinical Supervisor and Clinic Director for support in meeting your internship hours.
- Receive one hour of face-to-face in person weekly clinical supervision with a qualified supervisor is provided by FTA.
- Available hours on site that are not scheduled with clients shall be used for completion of all clinical documentation including managing case files.
- Attend our monthly clinic collaboration group as scheduled for the duration of the practicum for learning purposes and partake in the clinical team process at the practicum site.
- Complete a supervision contract with your Clinical Supervisor that outlines all supervised practice expectations and requirements.
- Attend orientation at the FTA New Richmond location, complete initial training for the first 8-12 weeks of internship at your assigned location and supplemental ongoing training as needed.
- Complete several assigned continuing education trainings.
- Perform 4 hours of volunteer time dedicated to decrease mental health stigma in our community.
